FREE  INTERNET

Save up to $300/year with Free Internet Service!

Are you paying $9.95, $19.95, or even $29.95 a month for internet access? You don't need to, you can get FREE internet service.

So What's the Catch?

As the saying goes "There is no free lunch," but in this case someone else is willing to buy it for you. What is in it for them?

Well, in most cases they have a window open on your computer screen called a portal.  This window will have various controls for their services (info, email, weather...) arranged around a banner ad.  The ads displayed in this extra screen are like regular banner ads but in categories that you request at signup time.

Some of these services also track the categories of web sites you visit for marketing statistics.

Also, when you use their service you start up on their home page. This can be very valuable to them in attracting advertisers to their web site.

And finally, you can get a free email account with these services, but read the fine print. Some services will add a line at the bottom of your outgoing email advertising their service (saying something like "Free internet service provided by www.oursite.com.")

Who Should Try this Bargain?

You will probably NOT like one of these plans if any of the following describe you:

  • Your computer has a small screen (you start to run out of area to see the web pages).
  • You think the internet already has too much advertising and having another ad on your screen bothers you.
  • You do not want to provide your name and advertising preferences.

Here's Where to Go to Sign Up:

NetZero, Defenders of the Free World - Possibly the first of its kind, NetZero provides consumers with 10 hours/month free Internet access by giving advertisers direct access to their ZeroPort™ which provides navigation tools and information customized to your profile.  NetZero also has a paid service which you can read about on their site. UPDATE:  Netzero has recently merged with Juno, another free access/paid access service and they are keeping both services running.  Netzero used to provide more time and has reduced it to 10 hours/month for economic reasons

Would You Rather Get a Free Computer Instead?

One internet provider has a different plan.  We have not tried this plan, but here's a description:

PeoplePC gives you unlimited Internet access, a new brand-name computer, in-home support and great online deals. And they charge just a little more than most people pay for Internet service alone.
