Find Special Items or Sell Your Stuff on Net Auctions

Online auctions are a new phenomena made possible by the internet. Net auctions can be a great way to find collectables, out-of-print books, memorabilia, almost anything. It can also be a good way to turn your cluttered garage into cash. If you are a serious buyer or seller who wants to make the most of this tool, learn the INSIDE STORY with the best guide available on net auctions

Similar to auction sites are trading sites.  The main difference is that the seller sets the price on trading sites.

If you have never bought anything at an online auction or trading site, they are worth trying for the following kinds of things:

  • Used stuff that doesn't wear out,
  • Collectable items (providing you know what they are worth),
  • Parts that are not being made anymore,
  • That specific item for your home decor, and
  • Deals on things that someone else wants to get rid of.

The biggest thing to beware at all these sites is that the buyer needs to know enough about the item's value to not pay too much.  If you are a serious collector that's usually not a problem, but if you are not sure what to look for, be careful.

Here are some auction and trading sites to check out:

eBay

eBay! is by far the biggest of the auction sites. Over 800,000 new items are listed every day to satisfy an abundance of tastes.

They also developed many of the arrangements used my most auction sites.  If you have never used one, here's the general process:

  1. Both buyers and sellers register, and can use a screen name for bidding.
  2. Sellers post the item they are selling.  Usually there is a picture and verbal description.  Sometimes they set a minimum bid price.
  3. Buyers can bid as long as the auction is open.  The current bid and number of bids are usually shown.  Questions can be emailed to the seller. Often buyers wait until near the end of the auction for serious bidding.
  4. When the auction closes, the high bidder is notified by email that they won and need to make payment.  Their account is usually not charged until after the item has shipped.  (Buyers, be aware that usually the buyer pays shipping, so if it is not clearly posted inquire how much it will be.)
  5. Both the buyer and seller rate each other.  This is more important than you might think because most of the sellers on these site continue to sell multiple items and a bad rating seriously limits their ability.
If you broke it, lost it, need it cheap or just can't find it anywhere else, click here to find it at eBay!
